Crispy Fried Chicken & Buttermilk Waffles!
I can honestly say I have never tried Fried Chicken and Waffles! I wanted to try it a while back but never got around to cooking this up. So today I decided I would make everything from scratch. I thought I would be able to do it all right away but if you're starving and want to eat right away it may have to be a 2 person job. I was in charge of the waffles and setting up everything for the chicken and my significant other was in charge of frying the chicken. Overall it came out pretty tasty; the chicken had great flavor and crunch that I would have eaten it without the waffles. The waffles were very appetizing and were fluffy and crisp and I pretty much drenched them in syrup. Would I eat chicken and waffles again? Maybe…. I prefer my waffles for breakfast and chicken for lunch/dinner.
Crunchy Fried Chicken
1 - 2.5 LB chicken, cut into pieces
1/3 cup water
1 cup hot red pepper sauce
4 cups flour
2 tablespoons pepper
3 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons cayenne pepper
1 quart buttermilk
Salt to taste
Peanut Oil, for Frying
2 cup flour
2 cups buttermilk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ cup of melted butter
For Fried Chicken
Place cut up chicken in a bowl and add the quart of buttermilk, cover and let it chill for 2 hours or overnight.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, water and hot red pepper sauce. Whisk until all is combined
In a gallon sized Ziploc bag, mix flour, pepper, paprika and cayenne.
Remove chicken from buttermilk and season with salt.
Dip each chicken piece in the egg mixture and then add to the Ziploc bag.
Once all chicken is in the Ziploc bag, close and shake it around to make sure every piece is covered in the flour mixture.
Heat oil in fryer or deep skillet to 350 degrees.
Working in batches, drop chicken pieces into the oil. Fry for 15-18 minutes, the large the piece the longer it will take. Make sure to be turning the chicken around and be aware that the wings will cook faster.
When chicken is ready, place on paper towels to get rid of excess oil.
For Buttermilk Waffles
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.
Start with the wet ingredients. Mix the melted butter, buttermilk and eggs. Make sure to whip the eggs.
Mix in the dry ingredients and stir. Make sure there are no clumps.
Heat waffle iron and cook your waffles.
This recipe should make about 6 waffles, depending on the size of your waffle iron.
To Serve Fried Chicken & Buttermilk Waffles
Put the waffle on a plate and then place two chicken pieces over waffle. Drizzle Syrup and enjoy!
